Have a wonderful Thursday all!
Today we are focusing on the Giant Devil Catfish, or as it may more commonly be known. The Goonch
The goonch, scientific name Bagarius yarrelli is known for its stories on getting large enough to eat humans. Getting larger than 6 feet long these catfish find themselves in freshwater rivers around the subcontinent of India.
However despite the public knowledge and interest of their large size, there is very little information on them beyond what we know about all catfish. Bagarius yarrell is considered threatened on the IUCN Red list, likely due to overfishing, and the impact of hydroelectric companies within their natural habitat.
I hope everyone has an amazing Thursday!
